Richard is smitten by Solenn Heussaff

WHEN RICHARD GUTIERREZ was interviewed by Pia Guanio in Behind The Wall of “Showbiz Central”, he said, in effect that he never confirmed or denied that he was on with Jewel Mische, but while “being in the island for 42 days, I had a lot of time to think and learned a lot about myself. Jewel and I had something very special. We still communicate, but I realized while I was in the island I need to focus on my work. Maniwala man kayo o hindi, I’m single now.”

Wags now say Chard broke up with Jewel as Richard got attracted to model-singer Solenn Heussaff who’s one of the castaways. No less than “Survivor Philippines Celebrity Showdown” director Monti Parungao revealed that it’s obvious Chard was smitten by Solenn, Derek Ramsay’s ex. Just like in the case of Jewel, Chard won’t deny or confirm it. He just smiles and smiles when asked about it. Watch “Survivor”, observe Chard when he’s with Solenn and see for yourself if he’s really got the hots for her.

Chard and GMA-7 are now jubilant because the “Survivor” pilot telecast trampled competition and got a high AGB Nielsen rating of 18.2%, the highest on primetime last Monday night.

WHAT CAN castaway Yaya Moi Marcampo, who’s been working as yaya for Piolo Pascual for 5 years, say now that “Survivor” has defeated her boss’ “Noah” in the ratings? “Baka palayasin na niya ako,” she says. Now that she’s getting a lot of good feedback for her appearance in “Survivor”, would she leave Piolo and go solo? “Malaki utang na loob ko sa kanya. Dahil sa kanya, nasali ko sa ‘Kimmy Dora’ na siya ang producer at nagkaroon pa ko ng Surf TV commercial with him. Gamit na gamit nga siya pati sa publicity ng ‘Survivor’. But about kung iiwan ko siya, I’ll cross the bridge when I get there kasi I’m sure hindi naman siya hahadlang kung magkakaroon ako ng sarili kong showbiz career.”

SHOWBIZ CENTRAL scored very high last Sunday as a lot of people watched out for Pia Guanio’s interview with C who revealed he went back to his school, UE, to finish the business management course that he left behind when he became a professional cager. James said he’s doing this for his son Baby James. “Kasi hindi naman habambuhay, maglalaro ako ng basketball,” he says. “I’m blessed as my teachers are all supportive of my decision to go back to college.”

The simple life of James in Escalante, Negros was brought into light. He just walked to school and has always been a good child. A childhood friend said: “Hindi siya maporma. Mas sikat pa nga ang brother niya noon kaysa sa kanya.” But he’s always been fond of basketball even as a boy, sometimes forgetting his meals while in the basketball court. When he made it big in Manila, he never forgot to help his family who loves him very much.

James says he wants to be strong in facing all his trials now for the sake of his son and he prays for the Lord to guide him to do the right thing. What about his other child? “Noon pa, sinabi ko na ang lahat kay Kris. Yun namang nanay ng isang anak ko, tahimik na buhay nila at ayoko na ring idamay sila sa ganitong gulo. Sobrang decent siya at hindi nakikisawsaw sa gulo kaya nagpasalamat ako sa kanya. Meron na rin siyang asawa at anak sa husband niya at masaya na sila.”

James became teary eyed when his dad, Caloy Yap, spoke to him via phone patch saying they’re so proud of his MVP award. “Manatili kang humble at lagi kang magdasal sa Diyos. Nandito lang kami lagi sa likod mo, handang sumuporta sa’yo. Mahal ka ng mga taga-Escalante.”

“Grabe, di ko ma-imagine si Papa. Wow! Pa, daghang salamat. Proud na proud ako na kayo magulang ko. Ngayon lang nagsabi si Papa ng ganyang bagay sa’kin. Mas tahimik pa siya sa’kin,” says James.

RYAN AGONCILLO is as in demand as an endorser as his wife Judy Ann Santos. His latest endorsement is Enervon Multivitamins that he really takes everyday and for which he did a hilarious TV commercial. ”It’s perfect to sustain someone who’s so busy like me to give you more energy and make you more happy,” he says. “I’m happy to promote Enervon as it’s the leading multivitamins brand today.”

He’s very visible in various shows, hosting “Eat Bulaga” on GMA-7 and “Talentadong Pinoy” on TV 5, also acting in the mini-series “Lady Dada” that starts airing at 8:30 PM on Wednesday.

Ryan is now eagerly awaiting the birth of their son, Juan Luis nicknamed Lucho, that’s is scheduled early October. “But the doctor says he might come out earlier than expected, baka third week daw of September, lumabas na,” he says. “Excited na talaga kami ni Juday. She wants to deliver by normal delivery at ayaw niyang magpa-epidural anesthesia kasi gusto niya talaga ma-experience yung pain na dinaraanan ng ina in giving birth to her child. Sana nga hindi siya masyado mahirapan kasi napakagaan naman ng pagbubuntis niya. Hindi rin kami kukuha agad ng yaya. We want to be hands on in caring for our baby. She plans to just stay home for three months at di muna magtatrabaho to devote all her time sa baby. Kaya ako muna mag-isang kakayod. Suwerte naman ang baby naming kasi panay ang dating sa’kin ng trabaho.”

AFTER VENUS RAJ, the next beauty queen to compete abroad is Krista Kleiner who’s known in local showbiz as Krissa Mae Arrieta. She just arrived from an extended stay in L.A. after she guested in Julio Iglesias’ five-month U.S. concert tour. She’ll compete in the Miss International to be held in China on November 7. It will be tough for her after the recent death of Chinese hostages. She sympathizes with the family of the victims and prays that the Chinese people won’t pass judgment to all of us. “I hope they realize this is just an isolated case,” she sighs.

Her family advised her not to go to China anymore but she says it’s a commitment on her part. Upon her arrival at the airport, she went straight to the site of the hostage crisis in Luneta to offer flowers for the innocent victims. She couldn’t help but cry while saying prayers for the repose of their souls. “They just came here for a vacation,” she laments. She’ll now start her training in preparation for her coming trip to China. She feels sad that the one she succeeded, the late Melody Gersbach, is no longer around to give her advice. “She was the one who crowned me so I was really devastated when I learned about her accident,” she says.

THIS IS AN EMAIL from Gina Jane Ty Frivaldo about our comment on Venus Raj: “Venus is just like Miriam Quiambao who could have won also had she given a more satisfying answer during the Q&A portion of Miss Universe when she was asked if a pregnant Miss Universe should be allowed to continue her reign. Both Miriam and Venus said they have no regrets about it. This is typical of us Filipinos. We lack humility and cannot admit to our faults and say, yes, we slipped. Even in showbiz, movie stars who begot kids out of wedlock and had failed marriages declare they have no regrets about it. That’s why their lives are messy. I guess that’s how we really are that’s why we have Kris Aquino’s messy breakup from James Yap, we have those cops torturing a helpless man, the SWAT bungling their attempt to rescue the Chinese hostages, a president who smiles in the press conference that followed and got international flak for it, and the Manila mayor and the MPD chief blaming each other for what happened. We now have an inkling of what will happen in the next six years to our beloved country with this kind of leaders. Lord, deliver us from evil, Amen.”
